One day, at a relative's house, Newton felt very tired from so much work, and leaned against an apple tree. An apple fell out of nowhere, and thanks to this he thought: why does the apple have to fall vertically to the ground? Why doesn't it fly off into the sky or to the side, and not into the planet?

He concluded at that point that the reason had to be that the Earth attracts her. He also said that, there has to be an attraction on the object, and the gravitational pull of the terrestrial object must be inside the planet and not somewhere else. In such a way that the fruit falls perpendicular to the center.

In this sense, he continued to think that if the object attracts the other, there must be a relationship of proportion and quantity. The fruit attracts the planet as much as the planet attracts the fruit. Therefore, a force is presented which he called gravity, which extends throughout all that is known and beyond.

This is how it happened, although there is no certainty that this is true. In this sense, it is said that the Royal Society of London has pointed out that there is an original document that shows that an apple did not fall on his head, but that while he was in his mother's house in 1666, he did see that fruit fall from a tree and that's when he became most interested in gravity.

Who was Isaac Newton?

he was born prematurely and in poor health, fearing for his life. His father died shortly before his birth on October 6, and his mother, who remarried, left her child in the care of her maternal grandmother. However, some time later his mother returned with three more children.

Little data is available on his childhood, however, there is evidence to suggest that he was intelligent and resourceful with his hands, although he did not seem to show any signs of how great he would later become.

Thanks to the support of his family, mainly his uncle, he arrived at Trinity College, Cambridge on June 5, 1661, at the age of 18, to obtain his Bachelor of Arts in 1665.

At the age of 21 he was influenced by theologian and professor Isaac Barrow, who was one of the first to praise his intellect and encouraged him to study mathematics and delve into optics. His confidence in him grew so much that when he was about to publish the Opticae Lessons in 1669, he turned to Newton for help.

That year a great plague hit London and the authorities decided to close the university. He returned home in the spring of 1667 when he was already 24 years old, and it seems certain that he had already laid the foundations of his work in the three great areas with which his name was forever associated: physics, nature of white light and gravity. universal.

It was during this time that the story of the famous apple that fell on his head while he was in that tree happened. However, it should be noted that at first Newton did not want to be revealed to the public, since he felt some discomfort in his thoughts. Finally the story was published in 1711.

Some time later, at the age of 29, the illustrious researcher had already put together an entire research team, whose work was of great importance for the progress and understanding of the phenomena of his time. But, he was still a total unknown to the vast majority of the population.

In 1687, his work entitled The Principia was shown to the world. This three-volume work was intended to show the mathematical and physical principles through a philosophical narration in the best style of the Greek classics, the events of nature and the universe that surrounds us.

In this work it was postulated that the force of gravitational attraction that makes a fruit fall to the ground from a tree is the same as that applied by the moon around the earth. Which was explained through the 3 laws that are:

  • First law or law of inertia.
  • Second law or fundamental law of dynamics.
  • Third law or principle of action and reaction.

However, Newton's story, some time after that publication, turns somewhat negative. He first got tired of college and teaching, then found out that his mother died and one of his research facilities was destroyed. Furthermore, he was accused of falsifying his investigations. This led to a deep depression.

Luckily, he managed to solve his problems and re-emerged as a new man. At the beginning of the 18th century he obtained an important position in the English government, in addition to obtaining recognition at the University for his work. In 1704, he published his work Optiks, which expresses a series of very interesting explanations about light and color.

Thanks to all these achievements he was decorated and recognized as a knight by the English monarchy. The previously unknown researcher and genius finally had the recognition he was looking for. However, in 1727 he died after suffering from a series of bladder problems and was buried in Westminster with full honors. .
